Facilities at Jessie's Cabin

Staying at Jessie's is really affordable and is ideal for 1 person or for a group of up to 4. The tariff is charged by the day and not by the number of people sharing with further discounts available for a visit of a week or more.
**Please see below for clarification regarding suitability for Guests requiring wheelchair access.**

Here's a short summary of what is included in a self-catering stay here at Jessie's Cabin:
  • there are 2 ensuite bedrooms, a double and a twin. The double bedroom has a wet room shower. Maximum number of people allowed equates to no more than 4; either adults/children sharing.
  • Wheelchair Access: Particular attention has been paid to making Jessie's as wheelchair friendly as the building would allow. Generally access into Jessie's is wheelchair friendly, however, the bedrooms would take a smaller type wheelchair as opposed to an electric one. We would therefore recommend the accommodation as being more suitable for a wheelchair user who does have some mobility, i.e. able to move from the wheelchair and walk to the bed.
  • bed linen and towels are provided
  • a comfortable open plan conservatory with seating and TV with almost 360 degree views of the surrounding countryside
  • a kitchen with cooking facilities, fridge, crockery and cutlery
  • electricity, heating and cooking fuel are included in the tariff
  • a patio area for relaxing outside and to admire the surrounding views with fantastic sunsets
  • a garden area for the children to play
  • Dogs: your dog would be welcome to stay although we would limit this to one dog and would ask that they are not allowed into the bedrooms. As we are situated amongst a farming community where livestock are grazed on the nearby fields we would also ask that your dog is kept on a lead when outside.
  • the location is set amongst open countryside with panoramic views and is very peaceful and relaxing.
  • private access to Jessie's Cabin which is set away from the main house with its own driveway.
  • plenty of private parking space.
  • the local shops at Dungiven are approx. 1 mile away - supermarket, chemist, post office, public houses, cafes. Limavady is approx. 15 minutes drive and Coleraine is approx. 30 minutes. Giant's Causeway, Bushmills Distillery, Portrush and Northern Ireland coast all within easy access.
  • laundry facilities are available at the main house and there is a nominal charge for this service.

Nearby to Jessie's is our Home and Nursery, Hill Foot Plants, and the Scott family live in the main house so you aren't totally isolated. We are a friendly lot and we are always there to help or to provide information if needed.

Dungiven Eoghan Quigg, X Factor Finalist 2008

6th December 2008 update - Eoghan has made it through to the final last 3!!
We wish him all of the best and we shall be glued to the TV next Saturday, as will everyone here in Dungiven and the whole of Northern Ireland. A fantastic achievement and a bright future ahead for him - well done.

The 2008 X Factor Finalists, including Eoghan Quigg from Dungiven, have a smash No 1 Hit with the record Help for Heroes. There has been some controversy regarding Eoghan's contribution on the record but as his Dad points out, this likeable 16 year old local lad just wants to sing. The vast majority of people in the area and Northern Ireland are all so proud of his continuing success on The X Factor and really do wish him well and hope he makes it through to the later rounds. If there is any doubt of the support being given for Eoghan one has only to drive through Dungiven town to see the hundreds of posters on the main street, in shops and the Eoghan car flags in abundance. There is no doubt that the vast majority of people are absolutely delighted for him.
The X Factor is certainly compulsive viewing in our house on a Saturday evening!

Dungiven town is towards the more northerly part of Northern Ireland and if you blink as you pass through it you might have missed it. The main A6 road travelling from Belfast and through to the City of Derry passes through Dungiven and continues onwards into Ireland and the County of Donegal. The sleepiness of the town is a little misleading and it is really surprising just how much is going on here socially. The town also retains the charm of having small privately owned shops and a friendly welcome and personal service is always guaranteed.

Eoghan Quigg Information
AGE: 16
LOCATION: Dungiven, Northern Ireland
JOB: Student - studying for GCSE's

Eoghan grew up in Derry, Northern Ireland and is currently studying for his GCSEs.

He lives at home with his two younger brothers and his parents who are really supportive of his dream and believe he has got The X Factor.
Singing since the age of two along to Disney cartoons, Eoghan would love to be the male equivalent of an Irish Leona Lewis.

He found his voice whilst singing with the school choir and from then on, sang all the lead roles in the school musicals.
Justin Timberlake is Eoghan’s idol and he got to the finals of Irish School Stars in their Eyes two years ago.
Eoghan enjoys school but constantly thinks about music and is determined to put the small town where he lives on the map!

Ballykelly

Ballykelly lies three miles west of Limavady on the road to Londonderry. A small town, Ballykelly nevertheless commands attention for its pastoral scenery and notable historical landmarks including Tamlaghtfinlagan Parish Church, built by Earl Frederick Hervey, 18th Century Bishop of Derry and Presbyterian Church, Drummond Hotel and North West Independent Hospital, all built by the London Company of Fishmongers. Nearby Walworth wood hosts some of the native woods in Ulster and also provides picnic areas and jogging/walking trails. The village was host to many Allied Airmen as a base for the RAF during the Second World War.

Ballycastle

Ballycastle is a small rural seaside town placed on the most north-easterly tip of county Antrim, Northern Ireland surrounded with breath-taking beauty and steeped in cultural history. Ballycastle is best known for the 'Ould Lammas Fair', probably the largest of its kind in Ireland with its 'dulse' and 'yellowman'.

Burnfoot

Situated on the B192 approximately 4 miles from Dungiven, Burnfoot is a small village flanked by the River Roe and includes a 3km family friendly riverside walk and picnic area with interpretation on flora and fauna. The ruins of Bovevagh can be visited nearby.

Belfast City

Belfast is the capital City in Northern Ireland and has a cosmopolitan culture. Like most major cities there is something for everyone here with just about everything on offer.

Stormont, Belfast

Set in beautiful park land NI's seat of Government is well worth a visit.

The open-top bus tour is excellent and will take you all over the City and the Guide's provide fantastic impartial coverage of the diverse history.

Benbradagh and Binevenagh Mountains

The 2 highest mountains in NI. Jessie's Cabin is at the base of Benbradagh and views from here are stunning.

The surrounding countryside here is classified as a place of outstanding natural beauty and we understand why.

Benone - a favourite NI holiday resort

The beach at Benone is second to none and provides miles of golden sands. We like the way that to the left dog walking is allowed and also you are able to drive onto the beach with your vehicle.

http://www.limavady.gov.uk/visiting/benone-tourist-complex/

There is a holiday complex here which is also available for day trippers and there's a really good caravan park nearby.

Benone is approx. 20 minutes drive from here.

City of Derry Airport

This airport is situated to the north of NI as opposed to the Belfast airports being more southwards. You would have to check if certain airlines go into here although there are plans to extend the airport and take more routes from abroad. Alternatively you would be able to get an inland flight from Belfast.

The City of Derry Airport is approx. 20 minutes from here.

City of Derry ( also referred to as Derry or Londonderry)

The City of Derry is to the north of NI what Belfast is to the south of NI; it is the largest main shopping area, cinemas and just about everything else. It's a fascinating multi-cultural City and well worth a visit.

Coleraine

We really like Coleraine and this is where we would go if we were doing a lot of shopping as most of the major brand stores are to be found here. Many of the NI towns have their own individual charm and still have small family run shops, such as a bakery, local butcher and greengrocery. Coleraine has lots to offer and is excellent as a Tourist area.

Danny Boy Festival

The Danny Boy Festival has been developed by Limavady Borough Council in order to provide an opportunity to celebrate the town’s connection with Northern Ireland’s famous song “Danny Boy” through the colourful and cultural mix of music, sport, entertainment and displays of rural crafts and traditions.
Our aim is to have all roads leading to Limavady for what we hope will be a vibrant community festival. The overall festival theme has been selected as being a mix of all forms of music and the committee and community from Limavady have a warm welcome for all from around the world.
We’re providing fun for all the family and entertainment for all our international visitors. The festival will run from the 30th April 2009 to the 3rd May 2009. See the programme details page for all event information.

Dungiven

The market town of Dungiven (meaning Given's Fort) lies nine miles south of Limavady near the foot of Benbradagh mountain. Originally the seat of the O'Cahan Clan, Dungiven Castle has been restored and is currently being refurbished and will provide a four star guest house and restaurant in the town. Dungiven Priory, overlooking a 200ft precipice on the River Roe, was founded in 1100AD and contains the tomb of Cooey-na-Gall, an ancient Chieftan of the O'Cahan clan. Dungiven Community Hall and Sports Pavilion provides local residents and tourist with excellent sporting and recreational facilities. On the direct route from Derry to Belfast, Dungiven provides visitors with a range of locally owned shops and brand name stores on its Main Street.

NI North Coast

We really are so fortunate here as we are surrounded by the most beautiful countyside and yet within a short distance we are able to enjoy a lovely drive along the NI North Coast road. The seaside towns are smallish, charming and quite old fashioned and are well worth a visit.
